Situated in the heart of Toronto’s financial district, the Toronto-Dominion Centre (TD Centre) dramatically transformed the city’s skyline upon its completion in 1967. Now, nearly fifty years later, these iconic towers continue to symbolize Toronto’s status as a world-leading city. Yet as the architectural fabric of the Financial District continues to evolve and market demands shift, the TD Centre has recognized the need to evolve alongside its environment, undertaking an ambitious $250 million revitalization that aims to extensively renew its lighting infrastructure and improve the environmental performance of its buildings.
With six towers housing over 21,000 workers, the aim was to bring a vast improvement in functionality to the TD Centre, while minimizing disruption and preserving the meticulous design details of the original buildings. In collaboration with HH Angus and Mulvey & Banani, Salex worked to implement an Osram Encelium Extend wireless lighting control solution that would resolve the most common challenges when upgrading the lighting control system. An array of Osram products – including Virtual Server with Polaris Software, Wireless Managers, Connected Lighting Control Modules, Wireless Area Lighting Control Modules, Wireless Passive Infrared Occupancy & Photo Sensors and Wireless Wall Stations – eliminated the need to change existing wiring, yet allowed for an addressable system with dimming capabilities and advanced lighting control strategies. The result is an innovative and fine-tuned lighting solution designed to maximize energy savings, and modernize an iconic structure for a new era.
